A good day

“He enjoys true leisure who has time to improve his soul’s estate.”

Henry David Thoreau

Imagine this: Donald has accrued too much vacation time at work (we’re still stumped as to how this happened) – so therefore takes the rest of the week off / It is in the low 80’s in Dallas and there is no humidity / waking up at 4 AM to watch the French Open live (I fell back asleep almost immediately, but it is the effort that counts) / driving to the donut shop to get some yummy kolaches / playing and relaxing with our baby / getting to go shopping alone while my sweet hubby watched sweet baby girl / heading to the arboretum , appreciating beauty, and just loving being together / getting the delightful news that Donald’s parents want to come over and watch Abi so Donald and I can go out to dinner and enjoy some alone time since Abi and I are heading to Michigan at the end of the week / enjoying dinner outside and seeing a friend across the restaurant who generously ended up paying for our dinner just to be kind / being with my husband and just talking / being thankful.

Yes, it was a good, good day.IMG_7333

Love grows love

One of my favorite Caedmon’s Call songs…it has just really hit a chord for me in this stage of life.  It rings true to me on so many levels.  Each time I hear it (whether randomly or seeking it out) I find myself being grateful for the love that God has given Donald and I for one another, the blessing and awesome responsibility of our precious daughter, and for the hope that He has put in our heart to love the world more purposefully and passionately.

you said to “put on a happy face”
on a high school stage
but I read what you really meant
in your handwriting on a Bible page
you waited like you told me
though we knew it right away,
it took eight and a half more years
to finally say

kissin!
I fell in love with you
and that love became something new
it keeps getting stronger
than we ever could have longed
love keeps growing more lovepage6

when we got the news
we had to call our families
and start painting the room
a nice, bright blue
our vows they started breathing
and they took on flesh and blood
and we held them in our arms
and tasted God was good

I fell in love with you
and that love became something new
it added a name and it added a smile
it keeps getting bigger every further mile
there on your bended knee
we sewed the seeds of our history
they’re coming up stronger
than we ever could have longed
love keeps growing more love

Honeymoon! 118
if love is an echo of the heart
the heart is a canyon
that stretches wild and free
without an end
and breaks through every wall
that holds us in

I’m on the other side of the world
to see what changed you so
my heart breaks with the broken
and it dances with the hope
you told me I would find here
but I could not understand
until I’m walking here beside you
hand in hand…

Well, it’s been a while since my last animal posting – so here it is.  So special.

Good Stuff

“We are Flight of The Conchords. We are so popular in New Zealand that most New Zealanders will deny ever hearing of us just to seem alternative.”

Bottom line – Flight of The Conchords are hilarious.  We first heard about them about 2 1/2 years ago – and laugh every time we think about their songs.  Laugh hard.  Can’t vouch for all of their stuff, but the bulk is fantastic.  They were just in Dallas; unfor. we heard about the show too late, but it brought on another viewing of their songs on YouTube for the Wallace household.

Thankful to be a part of it…

Today was so special.  Mother’s Day.  So strange to be a part of that fold.  Yet so wonderful.  10 months of such a sweet sorority – mothers.  A special love for their children and for one another.  I have some wonderful moms in my life – they are beautiful ladies and fantastic mommas.

Back, back, back at the Zoo!

Well, this post is a wee bit late- just forgot to write it, really!  I am once again a working lady.  But don’t hold your breath – I’m just at the zoo on Thursdays only.  It is just perfect.  One day a week suits my personality so well.  I am so thankful for the opportunity to keep my hand in something that I really care about, enjoy seeing old friends, make a little cha-ching (and I emphasize little!), and Abi gets a whole, fun day with her Nanny and Grandpa (and I’ve heard the feelings of enjoyment are shared!).  Ohhhh, but it is hard on my heart to drive home from the zoo and know I only have about 45 minutes before Abi heads to bed.  I really do ache in a new way for working mommas.  But, thank you to everyone who was thinking about our little family on Thursdays – we so appreciate it!  So far, a success!

We went to the zoo a few weeks ago with Jen, Brett, and Ben – and here is a picture of one of the newest residents of the Dallas Zoo: a 9 foot albino alligator.  How cool is he (his name is Boudreaux)??!!
